Adhere to streetlight timing to avoid wastage of power supply

Instances of streetlights left on during broad daylight have become a common phenomenon during recent times in Ponda

Although the on-off timings pertaining to streetlights have already been prescribed by the Electricity Department, these timings are not strictly adhered to and hence a sizeable quantity of the much precious energy gets wasted like anything.

Instances of streetlights left on during broad daylight have become a common phenomenon during recent times. The situation is quite undesirable and needs to be improved at once on priority basis.

It would be appropriate to cite a few instances that were recently noticed in and around Ponda. As on March 16, the streetlights in the vicinity of Matruchaya at Dhavali were left on at 8.25 am and those adjacent to Goa Bagayatdar at Upper Bazaar at 10. 30 am.

On March 17, the same were found functional in the vicinity of Shree Mahalaxmi Temple at Talaulim at 7.50 am, along vehicular underpass at Kapileshwari junction at 8.10 am, along approach road to weekly market at Upper Bazaar at 3 pm and also adjacent to Goa Bagayatdar at Upper Bazaar at 3.15 pm.

What a sorry state of affairs! Again, on March 18, the streetlights were left on near Shree Ghodkeshwar Ghumti at Talaulim at 8.15 am, near Shree Brahmanand Apartment at Varkhandem at 1.55 pm, as also along the road leading from Varkhandem towards Shree Keshav Dev Temple at 2.30 pm. On March 19, the same were found functional adjacent to Shree Mahalaxmi Temple at Talaulim at 8.20 am as also adjacent to Om Yashodhan Housing Society at Varkhandem at 1.40 pm.

Similarly, on two consecutive days, March 20 and March 21, fixtures near Mahalaxmi Temple and also near Shree Ghodkeshwar Temple, both at Talaulim were found functional at 8 am and 8.15 am respectively. Above examples are quite enough to depict the deteriorating situation in this important matter.

Of course, we cannot afford to waste the available power supply in this manner at any instance. Over the years, the Electricity Department has not initiated any favourable action in this regard and hence utilisation of available energy in the best possible manner has become a most difficult task. Let us hope that at least now the higher officials at the Electricity Department in Ponda would consider above mentioned instances quite seriously and initiate prompt positive steps to avoid wastage of power supply any further.

Whoever found negligent in performing the basic duties must not be spared but taken to task without any discrimination. Early positive steps in this direction would be appreciated by all.
