Are stray cattle ‘Speed Breakers’

The stray cattle roaming around freely in the towns have become a serious menace and causing a great nuisance. It has been said that stray cattle are “Goa’s National Speed Breakers” on the roads, and are cause of many accidents.

The stray cattle have contributed in wide spread of pollution across Goa, scattering the content of dustbins, far and wide. As if this is not enough, walking or driving through cow dung on the city, towns and rural roads is revolting. We even run the risk of meeting with an accident.

At all times, a group of cattle are seen at all street corners, calmly sitting down, unaware of the passing vehicles.

Some cattle are seen happily munching from the garbage bins. The root cause of the problem is the unplanned dairies, inside and around the city and towns. The owners, after milking the cattle, leave them loose so that they can graze outside in open spaces. Non-milking cattle are also left loose to save on their feed.

Last but not the least, are the piles of cow dung lying everywhere. Even if we do not step on this mess, we are sprayed with it by passing motorbikes/cars.
