Cattle menace in Siolim endangering lives of motorists

I am writing this letter to draw your attention towards the menace of stray cattle roaming around on the Marna-Siolim roads.

I cycle through this road almost on a daily basis and I easily find a herd of cows and buffaloes either squatting right in the middle of the road or they walk through the road trail making it difficult for vehicles to pass through.

It’s as if the roads are their homes. Cattle disrupt the smooth traffic flow as the people who own these cattle leave them carelessly on the road, putting the life of motorists in danger. It’s visible that they are not stray cattle, as few of them have ear tags. There is a decent amount of traffic already on these narrow lanes and with the animals invading the area, the road become accident prone, makes it menacing for those driving late at night, very difficult for buses and trucks to pass and this adds up to the traffic.

Approximately 20-30 cows and buffaloes walk or squat on these roads during the mornings and evenings which at times could be nerve wrecking since these cattle can easily attack.

It will be vital to have an arrangement for capturing such cattle if they are stray or I would request the right authorities to take legal action against the owners of these cattle, since this can easily be considered fatal if there is a collision. It’s abysmal to see this not just on this road but this is quite common in every stretch of our country.
