CCTV cameras needed on Atal Setu

It is understood that three electricity poles on the road divider of Atal Setu have gone missing on the Porvorim side of the bridge.

A video of the missing electricity poles went viral on the social-media. It is alleged that the three electricity poles had been knocked down by the motorists, who lost control of their vehicles, since the motorists drive their vehicles at a high speed on Atal Setu Bridge.

As CCTV cameras are not installed on the new bridge, it has become difficult to identify the culprits. It is surprising that even though several crores have been spent on the construction of the bridge, Atal Setu, which is the pride of Goa, does not have CCTV cameras installed on it.

Footage of the CCTV is very essential to track down traffic the violators since two-wheelers are not allowed to cross the bridge. The footage can also verify the vehicles involved in hit-and-run cases and also any illegal activities taking place on the bridge at night.

CCTV cameras on the bridge are also necessary to track over-speeding vehicles like the vehicles which allegedly knocked off the expensive electricity poles. Hopefully, CCTV cameras will be installed all along the two-and-half kilometres route of the bridge at the earliest.
