CANACONA: Deputy Speaker and MLA of Canacona in association with NGO Goenkar and Canacona ITI organised a cleaning drive on the theme “Clean Canacona, Healthy Canacona”, in which over hundred people participated and collected over 80 big bags of non-biodegradable waste mostly from the roadside from Mastimoll Police Station upto Char Rasta, recently.
Sixty students, instructors and Principal of Canacona ITI along with 50 labourers and members of Goenkar formed two groups, one starting from Mastimoll Police Station and the other from Char Rasta to collect the non-biodegradable waste.
Those participated in the initiative were Edwin Fernandes, Principal of Canacona ITI; Francisca Cotta, Saskia Ute Ferao of “Wild Giyoo”; Goenkar office bearers Sandesh Teleikar, Vikas Bhagat, John Coutinho and President Jack Fernandes.
“We have associated with our MLA and Deputy Speaker Isidore Fernandes to take this initiative at a different level through which we are creating a sense of responsibility amongst the public with respect to environment, cleanliness and change in climate,” said Sandesh Teleikar.
Isidore while expressing happiness over the success of the innovative idea, said that through this programme it is his priority to see that Canacona Taluka remains clean.
“We are talking with like-minded residents of Canacona to see that we help in reducing the carbon footprints so that we can pass the world to the next generation in the similar condition we received,” emphasised Fernandes.
