PONDA: In Ponda city there are hardly around four banks, including two cooperative societies accept the payment of domestic electricity consumers but for the time being have discontinued the practice of accepting bill payment as their staff is busy preparing for the financial year-end closing and accounting activities.
As these banks have stopped accepting payment of electricity bills, consumers are left with no option but to make payment of the monthly electricity bill at the payment counter of the Electricity Department at Curti.
However, here too they faced hardships, as the consumers could not make their monthly electricity bill payment despite standing in long queues as there was no arrangement made in the system to accept the new notes of Rs 250 and Rs 50.
As the rectification was not made, the machine rejected the new notes of denomination Rs 250 and Rs 50, forcing customers to look for other alternatives.
When this correspondent contacted, some officials, they admitted that the machine had not been updated to accept new notes and promised due action would be taken soon.
Ponda customers can be seen running from banks and cooperative societies to make their payments of electricity and water bills, but returned dejected as no bank entertained their demands.
