Cops should arrest main kingpins behind begging racket

Occasional drive by police in the coastal belt will not yield any positive results, if the authorities concerned are serious about curbing the beggar menace in the state then they ought to get hold of the people who force poor and vulnerable women and children in beggary.

The authorities concerned including the police ought to first crack down on the mafia who are involved in human trafficking. These elements  force women and children to beg and live like blood sucking leeches at their cost. The victims of human trafficking are trained and brought to Goa during peak tourist season by mafia wherein they target foreign tourists.

Foreigners fall prey to them as these women beg with infants, some of whom are kidnapped. The nuisance created by the beggars tarnish the image of Goa, it brings disrepute to our state which is one of the prominent international tourist destinations.

There is a need to resolve this issue once and for all. The authorities concerned ought to either send these beggars to their respective states or rehabilitate them, just detention for a few hours will not resolve this issue as after they are released they go back and resume begging. The men behind the begging racket need to be booked.
