Cracks on Ribandar causeway: cause for concern

The centuries-old Ribandar causeway (Ponte de Linhares), which is the main link between Panjim and Old Goa, appears to be in a dilapidated state at certain portions.
It may be recalled that some months back a portion of the 3.2 km causeway showed signs of sinking, with the level of one half of the road lower than the other. Later the same was hot-mixed and levelled.
But now cracks have resurfaced along the road with the level of one half of the road, showing signs of sinking (as seen in the photograph). This is causing inconvenience to road-users, especially, riders. There is also the possibility of them losing balance leading to accidents. Though only light vehicles are allowed on the road with a speed restriction of 40 kmph, the traffic on the causeway has increased several folds.
The concerned authorities need to act in this regard and find out if the causeway base is weakening. Necessary restoration work needs to be carried out on a war footing to save the causeway from further damage.
