Crumbling parapet of Vasco Municipal Market poses danger

The Vasco Municipal Market is several decades old and houses the port town’s iconic clock tower. The Vasco market which was built in 1938 is an example of Art Deco style. However, it is observed that the parapet of the market building is giving way due to the vagaries of nature. At a few places the dilapidated parapet has been demolished as it was beyond repairs. However, in some areas part of the parapet, which seems to be crumbling, still exists and the iron rods remain exposed as seen in the photo.

This spot is right above a prominent wholesale liquor shop and is located at the corner of the building near the old vegetable market. This is a busy market-place with hundreds of shoppers passing along the path.

If (God forbid), parts of concrete from the dilapidated parapet gives way, it can have disastrous consequences as it can fall on the unwary passer-by. The concerned authorities need to take necessary steps in order to avoid any untoward incident at the spot.
