PONDA: Absence of proper drains and gutters at the junction near Curti-Khandepar National Highway near Hotel Amigos are the main reasons for bad and muddy road, which have become slippery and risky for motorists during monsoons.
Choked gutters and nullahs have resulted in the rainwater overflowing on the road and the work on the four-lane road and the fly-over have added to the problem.
According to locals, thousands of vehicular traffic coming from Belgaum to Panjim and Margao and vice-versa, pass everyday from this junction at Curti-Khandepar. The traffic coming from Belgaum to Goa takes a left turn at this junction towards Margao and South Goa, while those going to Panjim and Ponda take a right turn. However, the junction has become very muddy and dangerous for the past few days and gutter water flows on roads.
Further, a long line of trucks parking ahead of this junction has added to the slippery condition of road. Many bikers get injured in several accidents that have occurred at the junction.
Locals have appealed to authorities for proper engineering of roads, gutter and have urged the clearing of truck parked along the roads near junction that also blocks traffic view.
Again, due to the lack of proper drainage and gutters, the water has been flooding at the Primary School located near the junction and also resulted in stagnation. Parents are worried about the continuous overflow of dirty water into the school and locals have asked authorities to address the problem at the earliest.
