Aren’t the taxes we pay enough? Last week, I stopped at the side of the road near the old parking lot waiting for my brother’s flight to land. I was inside my car and it was running. One traffic police comes to me and tells me to move from where I had stopped. I nodded agreement and moved from there, only to be stopped by another traffic police. He asked me for my license and I gave it to him. The next thing he tells me is this, “You choose. You want to pay Rs 100 or Rs 500 as fine?” I asked him what my offence was but there was no answer. So he starts writing a challan. I asked him why he was writing a challan when he wasn’t ready to tell me what my offense was. After a few moments, he tells me that he is booking me for dangerous parking. How can I be charged for dangerous parking when my car is running and I am still in the car? Additionally, mine wasn’t the only car there. They did the same thing to a lot of other cars as well. I then got fed up and asked him for his belt number. He didn’t have a belt number and started fumbling the moment I asked him that. The concerned official’s name is Balaji V Naik. I finally paid the Rs 100 fine again (somehow happens everytime I visit the airport) and left from there.
This is a sorry state of affairs, especially when we regularly pay our taxes. We are still robbed by these thugs in uniform, even though they should be working for us.
Another scam is the entry to the airport where one gets only 5 minutes. I do not want to get into detail as many share the same view as me on this. Now they even have bouncers at the exit as well.
So I ask you, is this the future you want for Goa? Is this the so-called achche din?
