This is in response to the report that the five major dams in Goa have reached the danger marks after the monsoon have started in Goa. I fail to understand how Goa has begun to receive water shortages even before the monsoon has even ended?
To add to this problem many parts in Goa do not receive sufficient water supply even after Goa receiving 100 per cent rainfall.
My point here is that it is true after the start of rains the dams do reach danger marks very quickly but has the government done any research on the above problem? During May when I passed by Anjum dam I saw that the water level was very low. But this was also because there was so much silt accumulation on the dam bed, thereby possibly decreasing the water volume of the dam and perhaps that’s why the dams reach the danger marks very soon once the rains start. I would like to request the concerned authorities to dredge all the dams, big and small, in Goa, which would increase the water capacity and help Goa get sufficient water.
