In case such dogs bite any pedestrian, it would indeed result in adverse consequences. It would prove serious for the victim if the concerned dog suffers from rabies.
Recently the Kerala Chief Minister (Pinarayi Vijayan) has issued instructions to the concerned state departments to initiate immediate steps to catch stray dogs with the help of trained dog catchers. It seems the canines would be trapped and subjected to sterilisation. The district collectors would be given the responsibility of monitoring the programme and implementation of a detailed plan that would be worked out on a long term basis to check stray dogs. Besides, dog-sterilisation camps at block level would also be held for almost 10 days in a month.
It would be advisable for the state government in Goa to introduce similar steps in order to deal firmly with the ever-increasing menace of stray dogs. This would go a long way in assuring safety to precious human lives.
Unless the matter is dealt with a iron hand, it will be difficult to bring this growing menace under firm control. Let us hope that prompt favourable action would follow in public interest.
