Death traps on ChogM at Porvorim

Driving through Goan roads has become very dangerous especially for the two-wheeler riders with so many potholes. There have been so many accidents even fatalities due to unexpected potholes. The stray cattle especially at night add to the commuters woes.

Orda and Saipem in Candolim deserve special mention for the stray cattle menace on the roads. It is not very expensive to maintain the roads pothole free. The local panchayats can easily be roped in to maintain the village roads. It is a harrowing experience for the two-wheeler riders and dangerous especially at night. A number of visiting tourists rent bikes and scooters to go around visiting various places of historic and scenic beauty.

These potholes come as a surprise during the monsoon as they get filled with rain water and give no indication of its depth or width. There has to be a continuous maintenance mechanism from the Public Works Department rain or shine. The public expects this service from its elected government to be able to travel risk free not for pleasure rides but as an essential service.

This is expected by people across the State. Some of the potholes are so big that damage even four wheelers. I hope somebody takes note of it and takes immediate action. The other hindrance is the unmarked (not painted) speed breakers on the national highways.
