If one observes the scene outside the main gate of Carmel College, Nuvem, in the morning, between 7:45 to 8 am and in the afternoon between 1:45 to 2 pm, the immediate conclusion that would be drawn would be that this is perhaps the perfect scene for accidents about to happen. For the spot is dangerous, to say the least, with students and motorists criss-crossing dangerously. However, if authorities take proper action, things can definitely improve further.
Once upon a time there were speed-breakers at the spot, which has been subsequently replaced by rumble strips.
Many are of the opinion that the speed-breakers served the purpose and traffic was visibly slow at that particular point, where speed-breakers were installed..
Despite this, motorists on either sides speed along as if they are on a racing track and as they approach the rumble strips, they accelerate more.
Well, who will stop one of them and ask if they had noticed the speed limit sign board which clearly reads ’50.’ Of course, even if they have read it nobody seems keen to follow rules.
I wish to seek answers from the concerned authorities as to why the speed-breakers are not restored at this spot.
Are these authorities waiting for a tragedy or big accident to happen?
Again, if we go on the presumption that speed-breakers are not supposed to be laid on highways, then why are the speed-breakers still present on the same highway at Fradilem in Navelim, at Sirlim in Chinchinim and at Panzorconim in Cuncolim ?
Rules, if applied must be constant and equal for all.
An early action in this regard will be highly appreciated.
