PONDA: Despite installation of ‘No Parking’ signboard in front of the gate of Ponda Fire Station, some vehicle owners are violating the traffic rules by parking their vehicles along both sides of the main gate, which is also declared a No Parking Zone for around 50 metres by the government.
According to Ponda local Dinesh Naik in 2014 one fatal accident had occurred in front of Ponda Fire Station wherein a Pernem youth died on the spot. To prevent any such accident, the vehicles should not be parked opposite Ponda Fire Station road and its gate.
He said, “The fire station is located on the main Ponda-Panjim roadside and this is one of the busiest roads as the vehicles coming from Margao and other parts especially buses are passing through this road.”
The vehicles parked along the roadside close to the compound of the fire station may invite accidents. As this is emergency service, the Ponda locals feel that the buses, car and other vehicles should be fined for violating the rules. Due to the parked buses and cars along the side of compound and near the front gate it would become difficult for speeding vehicles to notice the emergency fire vehicles coming out of the entrance to attend emergency calls and thus may invite accidents which need to prevented by taking strict action for violating no parking rule.
