Development at the cost of farmers?

Haphazard development has damaged Goa’s green cover and one such classic example is fields located in Sangolda-Guirim areas, which are presently inundated in water.

While undertaking the construction of National Highway, many outlets meant for rainwater to pass have been blocked as a result of which the farmers are facing serious obstacles in carrying out their farming activities as they have no way to release excess rainwater.

The stagnated water has not receded and in some fields even damaged the crops. The haphazard development done without proper planning and consulting the local self-governing bodies have contributed significantly to the misery of farmers who are mostly senior citizens.

It’s high time that Goans raise their voice and, and stop the works that are being executed by politicians without applying their minds. Such development works pose a threat to the livelihood of the people particularly those who are only dependent on farming for their livelihood.
