Dilapidated condition of Honda police outpost

HONDA: The police outpost at Honda in Poriem, Sattari, is in dilapidated condition and needs urgent attention.

The roof tiles and window panes of the building are broken and water enters in every time it rains and damages furniture. As a stop-gap measure, the windows are covered with tarpaulin to prevent rain water from entering.

The outpost is divided into three buildings which were built around 40 to 50 years ago and it caters to Honda and Pissurlem Panchayat areas. Due to the rapid development of Honda, many old government buildings have been renovated. However, given the expansion of industrial estate at Pissurlem and rise in population of Honda, the area requires a police station instead of a police outpost.

Honda has a population of around 10,000. The industrial estate here is four decades old, while the one at Pissurlem is about 25-year-old. With an increase in population, crime rate too has soared.

The Honda outpost has a staff of eight – two Havaldars, four Police Constables and two Home Guards. Hence, if the case is more serious then the complainant and the prosecutors have to travel all the way to the Valpoi Police Station, which is 7km away.
