The Directorate of Transport, Panjim is totally paralyzed. The vehicle owners have to make numerous visits to this department on a daily basis and the answer we get from the peons is that documents are not ready. The front seats at this department are mostly empty where all the registrations of the vehicles are taking place. They say some are on leave, some are bereaved and it seems there are no replacements for those who are on leave and the public has to suffer in the process. One lady peon told me that the paperwork of the month of December 2015 is still not completed. Many people who were present were grumbling that if the delay is from our side then we have to pay heavy fines. I myself am visiting this office since January 2016 and am coming back empty handed with the above answer. Not an inch of work is taking place. One of the LDC who is believed to be involved in handling the documents of ‘replacements’ of vehicles was on leave since January 2016 and has not been seen till date. If this trend continues, there is the possibility that the amount of work piling up with reach an insurmountable level and if no staff is recruited. The director of transport and minister of transport should look into the matter as the two and four wheeler vehicles given on rent will have no valid documents in case the RTO officials demands during their random checks.
