Don’t litter near water bodies

With the local administration banning entry of public at most of the exotic waterfalls in Canacona, the picnickers have discovered lesser known streams.

However, it has been observed that after they leave these places, they carelessly throw the trash behind, thereby polluting otherwise serene countryside.

The picnickers are responsible for leaving their waste which includes empty brewery bottles, wrappers, plastic water bottles, plates and bags.

Till now, we have cleared the roadsides, markets and beaches of the filth. It is now a new and immense challenge to free the hills, rivers and streams from garbage. Do not litter near water bodies, instead paint a tress in catchment areas of the rivers and also on banks.

Trees not only check soil erosion but also retain soil moisture and feed the rivers to keep them flowing. Trees are also helpful. Not only do they look beautiful when they grow, but they also help in protecting the water body from the pollutants. Vegetation also limits the carbon dioxide in the water, which balances out its pH level.

Stop the chemical pollution. If you notice someone throwing chemicals into the river or lake, or hear about such an incident inform your local authorities about the matter.
