Dumping waste at Nuvem? Be careful, you are being watched

The Nuvem Village Panchayat, with the sarpanch as the chairman, has constituted a Garbage Management Committee comprising the Panch members and two residents from each ward. Apart from tackling the Dry and Wet waste collection and disposal problems in the village, the committee is also focusing on the prohibition of dumping of garbage along the National Highway (NH 17) which is considered to be an offence punishable by law.
Members of the Nuvem Village Garbage Management committee are in the process of photographing and recording the vehicle registration numbers of those seen dumping their waste along the Highway specially at Gounlloy (opposite Maruti service centre), Belloy (Opposite Gomes Nagar) and Odguim (near Indian Overseas Bank). This dumping is in spite of notices put up by the Panchayat prohibiting dumping of garbage.
Details of the offenders are being sent to the Police Inspector, Maina Curtorim Police station under whose jurisdiction the village of Nuvem falls.
The Nuvem Village Garbage Committee members sincerely appeal to all those who have been dumping their waste along the Highway to stop this with immediate effect or face the consequences. “Those charged with littering the place will be challaned,” says a member of the committee.”
