I fail to understand why the Electricity Department is so careless about the maintenance protocols in Benaulim. Dangerously low hanging wires, cables, open miniature circuit breaker (MCB) panels of streetlights, fused LED light fixtures, voltage fluctuation and plants growing in junction boxes are a common sight here.
Rains and gale force winds lead to tree branches falling on the transformers and overhead live power supply lines getting short circuited. What happened to those grand plans of shifting cables underground? Calls by the concerned citizens to Benaulim Electricity Department go unanswered and one has to physically visit their office to lodge a complaint which in itself doesn’t lead anywhere as there is hardly any action taken. Are the powers that be, waiting for a disaster to happen before they wake up from their slumber?
