Cansaulim railway crossing is an important traffic junction through which all traffic heading down to Arossim, Utorda, Majorda and further upto Cavelossim passes. Thus it serves all the tourist spots along the road hence its importance cannot be overlooked.
However the flyover is overlooked, though it was in the agenda of late Matanhy Saldanha. So much so a plan was chalked out with the help of PWD Vasco and it was the shortest route. This plan must be in the records of PWD. However this plan was overlooked and the subsequent MLA who was also a Minister threw up a different route which was long and affecting many properties.
Hence land acquisition had to be done but the MLA went on insisting on NOCs from the landlord, which she could not manage to get. Thus the flyover project is in cold storage and as a result the tourist belt down South suffers badly.
But I’m given to understand that the railways have come up with their own plan which must be feasible and good. But I also understand that some new activists are trying to sabotage the project by going to the Court.
Under the circumstances I feel the local panchayat who consist of young and dynamic persons should take a lead and call for a Gram Sabha meeting and pass a resolution approving the railway plan for flyover. The same resolution should be submitted to the Court, as an intervener if the issue is before the Court. This will provide quicker results.
