Former sarpanch violates CRZ norms in Britona

Builds bungalow on the banks of River Mandovi in Britona; Villagers allege local MLA is in the know; Local MLA distances himself from controversy

While the fishermen are trying hard to save their houses in CRZ areas, a posh bungalow has come up right on the bank of River Mandovi at Britona, in the Penha de Franca panchayat jurisdiction.
Villagers who did not want to be named say the bungalow belongs to former sarpanch Blanche D’Souza, who is currently a panch member.
The villagers also allege that the bungalow has come with the blessings of local legislator, Rohan Khaunte.
“We are traditional fishermen but we’re still fighting cases in the court. So how do the authorities allow such illegalities? Just because they are panch members they can do anything they please?” questioned a fisherman.
While Blanche was unavailable for any comment, the Porvorim MLA tried to distance himself from the controversy.
“I have no clue about the construction that has come up but if you can give me details, I will definitely look into the matter and ask authorities to take action,” he said adding he does not support any kind of illegalities in his constituency.
