Free Adpai, Durbhat jetties from garbage

The Adpai and Durbhat jetties in Ponda gain great significance for people proceeding for work at Rassaim, Verna, Cortalim, Vasco and the neighbouring areas. It is rather unfortunate to notice garbage along these two jetties on regular basis. Public places need to be kept neat and tidy. However, the presence of garbage at this locations levy, a negative image in the minds of travellers.

The situation turns unhygienic for human lives too. In fact, it is the duty of the Adpai-Durbhat Village Panchayat to keep its jurisdiction clean. However, no favourable action comes to the forefront in this serious matter and the dumped garbage remains unattended. Residents from nearby areas often dump garbage even into the water adjacent to the Adpai ferry wharf. In case, the panchayat had issued fines on the defaulters, situation in this regard would have improved to a great extent. But no positive steps are followed in this direction and unhygienic conditions continue to be the order of the day. What is worst still is that even construction debris including mud, broken floor tiles, etc. are being dumped along the jetty with great ease.

Unhygienic conditions should come to a halt once and for all. Hence it is the need of the hour that the above two jetties are kept clean on a permanent basis. The village panchayat as a competent authority should not remain a silent spectator any more but need to shoulder the responsibility for a good cause and see to it that hygienic conditions are maintained at above two jetties. Since cleanliness goes a long way in assuring healthy conditions, let us hope that prompt positive action would follow on priority basis.
