I would like to bring to the notice of River Navigation Department that being disabled myself I don’t ride nor drive nor travel everyday nor cross ferry from my Divar Island to the mainland much.
But as a citizen of my Divar Island my heart is crying with pain to see my dear villagers who are going to work, college, schools, facing difficulties as one out of the two ferries frequently breakdown every other day or often after every two days on both routes Old Goa-Divar and Sao Pedro-Divar for almost two years now.
Since we have two panchayats namely Goltim-Navelim and Sao Matias, with seven members each, they must be trying with the River Navigation Department to do something about it but no result is coming forth yet. We did not trouble our respected MLA for the same because of his health problem since 2018. So where do we go or which door to knock?
Herald has highlighted many issues and has been fighting for the State of Goa and the Goans for many years now and many times letters have been taken as Suo Moto by Honourable Court of Law in public interest. I had highlighted through Citizen Herald in detail dated May 27, 2019 titled “Solve Divar Ferry Problem” but till date again nobody cares nor tries to solve why ferries breakdown often and thus put the people, students and senior citizens to hardship.
So my humble request to our Honourable Court, if you are reading my letter then only you can give justice to the villagers of Divar Island by taking my letter as Suo Moto in public interest, and direct the River Navigation Department including minister concern to provide us all our fundamental right for uninterrupted ferry service henceforth without breakdown and held accountable the concerned department or staff if the same is repeated.
