SANGUEM: While government departments like the electricity, agriculture and the library is located in private premises at Sanguem, a PWD owned building located in the heart of Sanguem town area stands neglected and is awaiting repairs by the authorities.
The PWD building which is located behind the Government Primary School comprises ground plus one floor and was occupied totally by government departments six years ago.
At that time, the first floor of the building was occupied by the Office of the Assistant District Education Inspectors while the ground floor was used by the Office of the Assistant Engineer, PWD, Sub Division III, Division XII.
However with the passage of time and with PWD failing to undertake the timely maintenance work of the building premises, the Office of the ADEI was shifted in a portion of Government Higher Secondary School, Sanguem which was lying unutilized for some time.
The office of the ADEI was shifted for the sole reason the premises was found untenable during monsoon as it was leaking on all sides.
The PWD office however continued to function from the ground floor premises. However with the condition of the building getting deteriorated further, the Office of PWD was also shifted and presently only a portion of the ground floor premise continues to be occupied by the PWD as a store room to keep the material.
Irony of the building us that it is located in the heart of the Sanguem Town area and if repaired and renovated, the premises could be used to house the Government premises which otherwise function from private rented premises.
Moreover, the Government is also in the process of getting an independent Office of Deputy Collector for Sanguem and Department of Land and Survey in Sanguem. Both the offices need spacious premises.
While the Government is contemplating to house these premises in the municipal owned premises in Sanguem, a little effort from the Government by renovating this existing PWD building would have saved the Government a lot of money.
Moreover the building could have also thrown open more space which could have been used to house the Government Departments in Sanguem which are presently run from rented premises.
