Heavy vehicles cause chaos on Pajifond street

The entry and parking of heavy vehicles (mostly 6 wheeler trucks) in Margao town is causing nightmares for residents and the vehicular traffic in Pajifond and Hari Mandir area. This area has a huge concentration of commercial complexes and shops. The people who come to this place find it very difficult during the peak hours to even walk to their building as the interior and main roads are occupied by huge trucks and 6 wheelers.
The complexes in these areas are part residential and part commercial. Several people who have businesses around this area find it very difficult to pass through the areas and even more difficult to find a car parking spot. The lane opposite Hari Mandir has three or four transport company warehouses where huge trucks come and park for unloading. The problem begins right from the beginning when the trucks attempt to park on the side which causes huge traffic jams. There is just about enough space for a car and motorcycle to pass through on this lane.
Chandra Gaonkar who is a frequent visitor of a share broking office in this area while speaking with Herald said, “I come with a two-wheeler and every day there is a challenge to traverse through the street. Parking anywhere here is a rare possibility.”
The trucks which come in the morning leave in the evening after the unloading and reloading, causing themselves to be a nuisance all day. Sadly, despite the traffic problems and congestion that this street faces, there is not even one traffic policeman to control the movement of vehicles or pay attention to the situation.
In addition to this, the shops and establishments have encroached on to the walkways made for the pedestrians, forcing people to walk on the street. Local residents and city travellers have demanded that these warehouses and other storage locations either be shifted out of town or there should be a time set for the trucks to enter the town which can ideally be in the evenings.
