Illegal number plates

Of late we have been noticing many owners having number plates on their vehicles which do not conform to extant laws. Either, the font is fancy or the size of the letters/numerals do not match what is laid down by the law; in most cases the size is far lesser than specified.

It would be very difficult for bystanders or police personnel to make out the vehicle number if it is involved in a hit and run accident or if it is used as a getaway vehicle by criminals. To quote a small instance, as per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, the size of numerals on a passenger car licence plate should be 500 mm x 120 mm in bold font but I noticed one vehicle at Benaulim which had such miniscule lettering that it was illegible even in broad daylight.

I request that the strictest possible action be taken by the police against such errant owners under the Motor Vehicle Act  as it is not only patently illegal but a challenge for law enforcement authorities to trace the car in the off chance that it is being used in some criminal enterprise.
