Improper disposal of used masks can spread COVID virus

Masks are essential for stopping the spread of COVID-19 infection during the pandemic and they have become an everyday accessory.

However, due to the huge increase in the use of disposable masks, the environment is in danger of being another victim if masks are not disposed of carefully.

The masks used by infected persons, if not disposed of properly, can also spread the infection when another person comes in contact with it.

In Goa, one finds used masks thrown by the roadside, on the pavements and even on the roads. The picture is of a mask thrown in the middle of the road probably by someone in a moving vehicle. Ideally, the used mask should be secured in a plastic bag and disposed off along with the house waste. This way, even the garbage collector will not come in contact with the mask.
