In Ponda, parking of four-wheeler vehicles, along the roadside has become a regular phenomenon. Such a practice ultimately disrupts smooth movement of vehicular traffic. Fellow travellers and pedestrians too face great inconvenience in the process. A few years back traffic cops used to lock vehicles parked along the roadside adjacent to Kurtarkar Commercial Arcade at Kaziwada. However, at present nothing of this sort has been observed and vehicles are parked at this strategic location with great ease.
At Tisk too, similar situation has been noticed. Private cars are being parked at area marked for two wheelers. It is rather unfortunate that cars are being parked on either side of the road adjacent to Savaikar Hospital at Varkhandem. At locations, where road is narrow, traffic congestion becomes the order of the day.
The road at supermarket is one peculiar instance in this regard. Whenever people visit shops to buy materials, cars are parked on the road itself. Such a practice disrupts smooth movement of vehicular traffic. With vehicles proceeding in opposite directions, pedestrians remain to be the worst sufferers who are likely to be knocked down by the proceeding vehicles. Above all, parking vehicles near sharp turns turn most dangerous. It affects the visibility of vehicle drivers, thereby resulting in a possible mishap sooner or later.
The practice of vehicles being parked over the pavement also continues with great ease. Hence pedestrians are subjected to risk and danger. The higher officials at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) as also the Traffic Cell of Goa Police should take a serious note of above important matter and start a massive drive against vehicle drivers parking four wheelers along the roadside.
Hefty fines need to be imposed so that discipline is imbibed among the vehicle riders. Appropriate action on the part of the competent authorities would go a long way in assuring smooth movement of vehicular traffic along the concerned locations.
