Is Campal stadium-cum-parade ground a distant dream?

Today this open space is a dumping ground for damaged cars and trucks of the government departments

Goans are passionate about football and Panjim in particular, the Campal Football Stadium was famous for holding football tournaments and other activities which used to attract huge crowds.

On May 1, 2016, a plaque was installed for the construction of football stadium-cum-parade ground at Campal by none other than then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar under the aegis of Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA).

Panjimites would have revelled in the setting up of a football stadium. However, alas, today this open space in the city is a dumping ground for damaged cars and damaged trucks of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and the Public Works department (PWD) and other departments. Some of these damaged cars were lying opposite to Town Police Station. Panjim has very few open spaces that should be utilised by our youth for among other games especially football. It is a travesty of sorts that what was to become a throbbing football stadium has today deteriorated into a dumping ground for damaged vehicles.

Why is it that elaborate inauguration functions and installations of plaque are being held for various developmental works in the Smart City of Panaji but no action is forthwith to complete the task?

It is a dereliction of duty on the part of the GSUDA, which is a prominent agency that should have been managed better but due to utter neglect has led to this state of affairs in the Capital City of Panjim, which is also supposed to be a Smart City.
