Is education necessary for people regarding cleanliness and swachhta?
I went to purchase some fruits from the Panjim market the other day.
Happily waiting for my husband at the entrance I nearly got doused with water by women washing their tiffin boxes, gargling out their mouths and throwing out their left over meals at the front of the market.
Can you imagine my shock and surprise since this is the main entrance to the market. These people were oblivious to me standing there, not that they had splashed me with their dirty water. It appears that they know no better.
Should not these shopkeepers be made aware and educated on cleanliness and swachhta? Shouldn’t some provision like a sink and tap be made accessible to them in the market so that they can wash their dirty dishes and rinse their mouths instead of in public view?
This picture exhibits the horror encountered that day. I sincerely hope the necessary department makes some provisions, otherwise cleanliness or Swachh Bharat, will be just a dream.
