Known for its heritage and natural surroundings, Salvador do Mundo village, more affectionately called Saloi by the locals, is seeing the muck of garbage strewn everywhere at present, be it by the roadside, in the storm water drains which come alive in the monsoons, or fertile fields now left fallow. They are not the locals who dirty the village, one villager said. Bhaile eun amchi Saloi melli kortat.
The local authorities in power do nothing about it to solve the problem; when questioned, they keep mum or give avoiding answers holding no responsibility for maintaining the village clean. Their attitude is: Amkam kiteak podlam. (what do we care). But we Saloikars care. Not to depend on these authorities, one caring local suggested that every ward be looked after by the people themselves arranging a weekly drive to clean the locality being together in a spirit of selflessness for the love Saloi village.
