Level crossing at Utorda

Utorda Photo shows school children from Utorda School crossing the railway tracks, when the track is closed for traffic and trains are few seconds away.

Incidentally number of maximum trains run between 7am to 8am and 1pm to 2pm which coincides with the movement of students. The railway gate remains closed for at least 20 minutes at any given time, and as a result the students are forced to cross the track either to reach the school in time or to run home after school to escape the pangs of hunger. It may be recalled that an over-bridge for traffic was mooted with Konkan Railway and Goa government sharing the cost but the locals feel it was just another hollow promise.
With star resorts in and around the village and increasing number of vehicles in the village, an over-bridge is the need of the hour, a concern echoed by most of the villagers of Utorda.
A dilapidated over bridge with slippery conditions and steep slope serves no purpose to the villagers. The immediate need of the hour to prevent tragedy is by keeping a policeman at the gate at peak hours or the concerned authorities should come out with a tangible solution to avoid a tragedy.
