VALPOI: The Municipality crematorium at Velus is under maintenance for a very long time and the existing shed has also been dismantled. Locals are now worried because of the approaching monsoon season since it is the only crematorium in town. The locals have demanded that the Valpoi Municipal Council complete the work before the rains come.
“The maintenance work at the crematorium has suddenly been stopped by the municipality. We demand that the council complete the work before the rains. If suddenly someone passes away in the monsoon then it will be a problem for the family of the deceased,” says Ashish Kanekar, a local.
“I am requesting our councillor to complete the maintenance work of Velus crematorium on a priority basis,” says another local Umesh Gaonkar.
“We have already informed our municipal engineer who has visited the site and carried out an inspection. According to engineer the laterite stone work has been completed and it will take more time to complete the whole work. So I have told him to put a temporary shed in the crematorium and complete the work fast,” says the chief officer.
“Some materials were missing and now we have got the all materials and the laterite stones. Now we hope to finish the maintenance work of crematorium soon,” says councillor Ramdas Shirodkar.
