Lock electrical junction boxes

Verna is fortunate to be one of the first villages to have an underground electrical cabling system in place since the past many years.

But the junction boxes like the one in the picture are left open inviting mischief by unscrupulous elements, which can cause sabotage besides getting exposed to the vagaries of the weather causing short circuits and becoming a safety hazard.

On complaining to the Electricity Department, the standard casual reply is “the locks are broken”. If the department or the contractor allegedly uses sub-standard material as is the case with all government departments this is bound to happen so the only alternative is to replace or modify the boxes with standard quality ones so that only authorised personnel can open and attend to the faults. This is a common problem all over and the department needs to act on a war footing before any mishap takes place.
