Maintain cleanliness after jatras, fairs, feasts and exhibitions

In Goa there are frequent occurrences of jatras, fairs, feasts and exhibitions in some or the other village or town. Permissions are granted by the panchayats or the municipalities to erect stalls that sell products of various kinds.

At the end of the events, the ground or hall is left shabby with muck, plastics and other wastes strewn around.

The authorities charge trade licence and along with this a nominal amount for garbage collection and a substantial amount of deposit should be claimed from the stall owners.

During the course of the event sanitary inspectors should move around to check for proper disposal of garbage by the stall owners. To help in the task, a small committee of stall owners should be appointed to keep track of garbage and if anyone is caught on the wrong foot, then the deposit amount should be forfeited. Regular offenders should not be given licence and be blacklisted across Goa.

In the absence of strict measures, the onerous task of cleaning the dirty place falls on the sanitary workers who are not paid any extra amount or zealous volunteers who do it out of concern to the environment.
