MAPUSA: Mapusa residents, especially the senior citizens, are unhappy with the quality of services provided by the Mapusa post office.
A major grievance of senior citizens is that there is no special counter for them at the post office, due to which they are forced to wait for hours in general queues to get their work done. This, they complain, causes them severe physical inconvenience.
Another major problem plaguing the Mapusa post office, people say, is poor Internet connectivity and server breakdown, due to which their work remains pending for days.
“The Internet server at the post office develops problem, every second day. I had gone to the post office last Friday to encash my certificates; after taking down all my details, the staff had called me today and when I went there in the morning, the staff asked me to wait as there was a problem with the server,” Leena, a senior citizen, said adding, “When I asked them why there is no special counter for senior citizens, the staff remained silent.”
Whenever the internet server develops problem, people say that they have to wait for minimum three hours to get their work done.
The post office also does not have sufficient number of chairs or benches for visitors forcing them to stand for hours, till their work is done.
Added to this is the lack of parking space for the visitors at the post office. In the absence of parking space, visitors have been parking their vehicles along the road, leading to occasional traffic congestion.
Since Mapusa is a major hub in Bardez, people from nearby villages, who visit the town regularly, prefer to get their postal works done at the Mapusa post office. Due to this reason, there is a huge crowed at the Mapusa post office every day.
