It was hoped that the hardships and torture faced by the commuters in private public buses public would be largely alleviated and travelling in inhuman condition would only be a thing of the past. But over the years the KTC has added salt on the existing wounds of the passengers and put them from frying pan into fire. The attitude and behaviour of the KTC bus drivers and conductors is no better than those of the public private buses. Many KTC drivers are rough both in behaviour and driving.
The conductors are arrogant, haughty and stubborn, filled with pride and treat the passengers like dirt. They shout at passengers on trifling issues, like inability of the passenger to tender exact change forgetting that it is their duty to maintain sufficient change with them. Some of the KTC conductors reek of alcohol in the mornings, afternoons and evenings and behave rudely with the passengers. It is not understood as to how the concerned authorities in the KTC allow its staff on duty under influence of alcohol.
Decent and cultured Goan passengers, endure the arrogance and insults publicly hurled on them instead of revolting back. The conductors take undue advantage of this nature of the passengers. The buses often break midway putting the commuters in hardships, are very dirty and during the rains some are leaking like a strainer.
The service provided by the KTC is miserable. The number of buses operating, especially on the three trunk routes is not commensurate with the ever increasing travelling public. Commuters have to stand in a line for more than half an hour or even one hour. The long serpentine queues at the KTC bus stand at Margão to buy tickets and endorse the passes for the shuttle service and the mad rush to board other buses to Panjim and Vasco offers a living testimony to the inefficiency of the corporation.
