Need for speed breakers at Fatorda

The road named Pe. Pedro Ferrao but erroneously called Ambajim Road in Fatorda, connects two district highways, one passing in front of Collectorate Building and other adjacent to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Eastern side). Located along this road over a distance less than 100 metres there is a School, Church, Bank, Health Clinic and the main gate of PJN Stadium. During morning, afternoon and evening hours there is always heavy movement of vehicles zooming to and fro across the road. Pedestrians, especially senior citizens and school children trying to cross the road from one side to the other, face a real nightmare.
A number of accidents have taken place during the last three years in this section of the road and I myself have witnessed two accidents, one in which an elderly woman was hit by a speeding biker. The poor lady was badly injured with a fracture on her leg needing major surgery and was incapacitated for two years and still continues to be handicapped.
Another accident was a collision between two bikes in which one person was seriously injured. Fortunately so far there has not been any casualty, but chances are there, if no timely safety measures are taken by the concerned authorities.
Laying of speed breakers or rumblers at appropriate places would be helpful as this would compel the speeding vehicles to slow down considerably. We earnestly appeal to Mr Vijai Sardesai, the capable and dynamic MLA of Fatorda and TCP Minister of Goa, to take up the issue with the concerned authorities and impress upon them to take some urgent action in this regard. Ultimately the safety of ordinary pedestrians too, deserves serious attention.
