Sernabatim Beach which was one of the most serene beaches of South Goa has been reduced to a garbage dump courtesy the influx of domestic tourists looking for a post COVID-19 pandemic break.
Though, there are litter bins placed right at the entrance, people exhibit an extreme lack of civic sense and spread litter all over, paradoxically there is no “kachra” (waste) to be seen in the receptacle, which is as “clean as a whistle”.
The beach proper too is home to all kinds of waste, making it an eyesore and most unvisitable. No Tourist Police are to be seen anywhere, had they been here they could have imposed fines on the perpetrators. All this “Clean Goa, Green Goa” business is for advertisements, the situation on the ground (literally) is entirely different.
The least the government could do is to post one police personnel each at the major public beaches to check such activity.
