VASCO: The malfunctioning traffic signal at Verna-Titan Junction has put the traffic movement around the circle in jeopardy.
The signal at the junction which is most of the time non-functional has become a deathtrap for the commuters. Traffic Police say that the non-functioning of the traffic signal is due to the frequent power cuts.
The traffic signal, which is frequently used by the hundreds of people daily while travelling to go to work in Verna Industrial Estate, Margao and Panjim, are playing with their lives.
With no proper maintenance and malfunctioning of the traffic signal at this main junction has increased the chances of vehicular accidents.
When contacted some people working in the Verna Industrial Estate, who stand at the junction bus stop to the catch bus, mentioned that the traffic signal was working properly few months ago, but now in the monsoon season it has started malfunctioning.
“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t,” they informed. They also mentioned that it becomes difficult sometimes to cross the road as the vehicles move in high speed on the highway road. Therefore, it is very important to get the traffic signal repaired.
When inquired with Vasco Traffic Cell, the sources from the traffic cell informed that the traffic signal at Titan-Verna Junction goes off due to frequent power failures. It has got electricity connection and not solar panels, therefore during power cuts it goes off.
The sources further informed that in case of technical problems, the Traffic Police immediately complaint to the technician who immediately rectify the fault for smooth functioning of the traffic signal.
