Through the `Citizen Herald’ of June 27 I had highlighted the fact that the century-old Ashoka trees along the Swatantra Path in Vasco pose a danger to life and property in the report titled “Ashoka trees along the Swatantra Path in Vasco falling like nine pins”. The ward councilor Krishna Salkar had taken steps to see that these weak trees are cut down so that they do not get uprooted in the monsoon because of the winds. “I am taking this step keeping in mind the safety of the people as several vehicles and pedestrians traverse along this path” Salkar said. “These trees have weak roots and are hollow inside hence had to be cut down. They will be replaced by new saplings of Ashoka trees” he added. Many of the Ashoka trees along the path have also been trimmed.
