Civic bodies should give importance on the manner in which the garbage is transported in the garbage vans as well as the time at which garbage from the market place is collected.
Garbage needs to be collected in garbage vans which are immediately covered after the garbage is deposited in them. This does not seem the case in the Port Town of Vasco as is evident from the photograph. If the top of the garbage van is not closed then it raises an unbearable stinks in the area surrounding it as a result of the garbage present in it.
Road-users, who inadvertently have to follow a garbage truck while moving along the road, also have to bear with this stink. Hopefully we will see closed garbage vans in the city in the future.
The time during which the garbage from the market place is collected is also of significance. Many a times the garbage is collected when the market-place is full of shoppers who unfortunately are forced to bear with the stink emanating from these garbage trucks. Garbage from the market-place needs to be collected first thing in the morning. It is pertinent to note that in foreign countries garbage from the homes and the market-place is collected before the break of dawn.
