Overloaded trucks pose risk to road users in Vasco

It has become a common sight to see overloaded trucks traversing through the city of Vasco, specially, along the F.L. Gomes road.

These monstrous trucks as well as trailers carrying huge loads pose danger to two-wheeler riders and other road-users as well as pedestrians crossing the roads. It is seen that many a times these over-loaded trucks break down on the Chicalim slope as they find it difficult to climb the slope with the huge load. This causes a traffic jam along this busy road which happens to be the main entry and exit road to the Vasco city. Traffic police then have a tough time to control the traffic till the truck which has broken down is able to move again. Till such time the truck is able to move, it is kept in place by the brakes. If (God Forbid) the brakes of the truck fail, it can come rolling down the slope the consequence of which could be disastrous. Until and unless the heavy traffic is diverted along the proposed four-lane highway, vehicular drivers in the city will always be at peril. Unfortunately for some reason the project has been delayed by several years. The four-lane highway needs to be completed on a war-footing which will lead to decongestion of roads in
the city.
