PERNEM: The schools and colleges are on summer vacations, so many Indian tourists as well as the locals have started visiting the farms, beaches and many other places. And Morjim Beach is one of the famous beaches where many picnickers prefer to visit in order to enjoy and relax including families and college groups.
However, after having a good time on the beach, these groups fail to maintain the cleanliness of the area and leave the place in a mess of waste garbage. The place is littered with leftover garbage such as plastic plates, glasses, bottles, chips wrappers etc at Temwada.
A local Shubham Bagkar said, “Everyday different groups come and party on the beach. After enjoying, they litter the place with leftover foods. It is their duty to collect the garbage and put in a plastic bag so that it does no spread all over. But instead of doing that they leave the garbage to spread all over making the place dirty and stray animals to feed on it.”
When contacted Morjim Sarpanch Shanti Poke informed, “These are the domestic tourists who leave their garbage. The panchayat as well as the people employed by the Tourism Department cleans up the place and there are dustbins kept on the beach under tourism scheme to dumb leftover waste. However, the tourists do not make use of the bins and leave the garbage on the ground. It will be also cleared off soon.”
