This is in reference to the news report “Another Navelim lad assaulted” which appeared on Herald, June 23, 2021). Nowadays, there are frequent such situations, like another incident happened last week when another person was assaulted at Navelim on the road for asking the vehicle owner ahead of him to move away and give way.
Quite often, you find people parking their vehicles in the middle of a busy road or a busy road bend/junction causing inconvenience to the other road users, whilst the owner is oblivious of the matter or just unconcerned. Generally, the bigger the offenders’ cars, the bigger are their egos and a show off.
Many a time, even if you blow your horn or gesture to them to move away they are not bothered even when they know their vehicles are blocking smooth flow of traffic, they stare at you angrily or utter words like “kitem zale rei……ravom zainam?”. And you are at the mercy of such unruly behaviour and disrespectful attitude.
The offender blocking the road remains unaware that you are getting delayed or that you have to move out urgently. Such situations many a time go out of control resulting in heated altercations and untoward incidences.
Understand that the Traffic Police/RTO could not be in every nook and corner controlling such behaviour. But request the Traffic/RTO Department to immediately issue stern guidelines on electronic/print media for such unruly disrespectful behaviour on the roads.
Also there could be a system introduced, wherein one can upload a short half minute/one minute video with the offender’s vehicle number plate on the RTO website, recording live real time evidence, as only video will not keep room for denial from the offender.
Such initiative will check, deter potential and frequent road offenders. All road users must observe traffic rules and be responsible whilst driving, avoid haphazard parking and give way to others when necessary, to save other road users and pedestrians avoidable inconvenience.
