Speed breakers in village roads must be painted with zebra pattern (white strips), because they are not visible and can lead to ccidents.
If a person is familiar to that particular route, he will know at what locations there are speed-breakers, but if a tourist or others use the road then he will not know where the speed breakers are located, and since they are not visible one may even skid on the bike. However, this is not an issue for four-wheelers, but two-wheeler riders have to suffer.
Authorities should think of the elderly people. I would like to share an incident that happened two years ago. It was in July 2015 and I was coming home via Verna-Utorda road. Just before the railway crossing gate at Utorda, there was a speed-breaker which I didn’t see from far and looked as if it was flat. I was riding at normal speed but did not slow down. But when I approached very near it was too late and as I applied breaks I lost control and skidded off the road and suffered multiple injuries.
Unluckily it was Sunday and the clinics in my village and neighbouring villages were shut and I had to go to Hospicio, Margao for treatment.
I hope the concerned authorities can take possible steps towards this menace.
