PONDA: Pondaites have demand with the government to install rumbler strips on the internal roads connecting to highway and also introduce speed limit to prevent accidents.

The Rajiv Kala Mandir road has been widened recently and hot-mixed and vehicles using this stretch tend to go in high speed.

Speaking to media, a local Viraj Sapre said, “In the absence of speed breakers, youngsters drive their vehicles in high speed.”

“Some locals have already been injured due to speeding of vehicles and bikers. Since many programmes are held at Rajiv Kala Mandir, the people find it very risky to cross this stretch because of these speeding vehicles,” Sapre said.

“The width of this road is 12 metres and some youth are even seen riding their bikes without number plates to avoid being identified,” some locals said.

In view of this, the locals have requested the police to put up signboards to control the speed limit and also erect rumblers on this stretch.

According to Hanumant Naik, the Kavlem-Khadpaband junction in absence of rumbler strips has become dangerous for locals who want to cross the road with their bikes and vehicles.

He said, “There is an urgent need of installing rumbler strips as the junction is on a slope and vehicles on highway tend to travel at high speed, creating risks of causing accidents.”
